The 2026 Burton Family Tree Alekesam, designed in partnership with the legendary Selema Masekela, merges his deep-rooted surf style with all-terrain snowboard versatility. Its directional shape, paired with a responsive camber profile and mid-stiff flex, delivers a ride that flows effortlessly—whether carving up groomers or floating through fresh powder. This board embodies Selema’s free-spirited approach, inviting you to turn every mountain run into a personal expression of style and adventure.

Board Type: Freeride-Powder

Park 4/10
All Mountain 9/10
Powder 7/10

Freeride snowboards are built for steeper, off-piste terrain. These boards are ideal for aggressive riding and usually for more advanced riders.

Powder snowboards are designed for deep snow. Generally these boards feature a directional shape with a tapered tail for better float and ease of riding.

Flex: 6.5/10 (1=soft, 10=stiff)

Offering a balanced blend of flexibility and stiffness, mid-flex boards are versatile and suitable for all-mountain riding. They provide enough responsiveness for carving while maintaining some forgiveness for playful or casual riding.

Ability Level: Intermediate-Advanced

Intermediate snowboards offer more responsiveness and stability at higher speeds, with a slightly stiffer flex for better control on varied terrain and more advanced manoeuvres.

Advanced snowboards are stiffer and more responsive, designed for high-speed control, precision riding, and handling challenging terrain or tricks.

Shape: Tapered Directional/Directional

A tapered directional snowboard features a shape where the tail is narrower than the nose, providing enhanced control and stability in deeper snow. This design improves floatation in powder and allows for smoother turns, making it ideal for freeride and backcountry riding. While it excels in one direction, the taper helps the board naturally guide you through challenging conditions.

Directional Flex increases pop in the tail of the board while having a stiffer nose that makes the board easier to control in all conditions.

Camber Type: Directional Camber

Directional Camber puts rocker in the nose of the board, adding extra float in powder while retaining the response and stability of traditional camber which offers unmatched power, response, and edge control.

Width: Standard, Wide

Standard width boards deliver exceptional edge-to-edge quickness and responsiveness while providing enough platform space for riders with average boot sizes.

Wide boards are for those with large boot sizes and provide extra flotation, reduced drag, and never feel clunky or cumbersome underfoot.

Inserts: The Channel

The Burton Channel forgoes the traditional mounting system and introduces a channel for your front and rear inserts. This allows you to fine-tune your stance width and gives you more freedom in your stance location. The Channel is compatible with most major binding brands, but works best with Burton EST bindings.

Board Construction

Laminate: Triax with Carbon I-Beam

Triax fiberglass is layered above and below the core and creates a versatile flex and consistent response for performance across all types of snowboarding.

An ultralight Carbon I-Beam backbone is added to the bottom layer of Triax fiberglass to increase pop of the snowboard.

Core: Super Fly II 700G Core with Dualzone EGD and Squeezebox

The Super Fly II 700G Core features stronger and lighter woods targeted in specific areas, which provides more pop and strength while reducing weight.

Dualzone EGD aligns the wood grain in the core along the heel and toe edge in two unbroken zones perpendicular to the rest of the core, which gives consistent edge hold and strength.

Squeezebox consists of thicker, more powerful sections combined with thinner, more flexible sections profiled throughout the core. This enhances energy transfer and makes the board snappier and more stable.

Base: Sintered WFO

Standing for Wide F!#@ing Open, this base made from an extra absorbent, high density sintered material that is infused with a specially formulated wax, resulting in an ultra durable base that rides Wide F!#@ing Open.

Additional Features:

  • Balanced Freeride Geometry

A setback camber and stance-centred sidecut makes this board feel like a twin when riding flat based, but still has the tight turns and effortless float you'd expect from a directional board.

    • Super Sap Epoxy

Super Sap is a bio-based resin that reduces the carbon footprint by 50% over conventional petroleum-based epoxies.
